SDLP Foyle MLA Pat Ramsey has said that it is imperative that a new meaningful strategy is put in place to ensure those with disabilities are supported and offered employment opportunities.

Mr Ramsey, Chair of the Assembly all party group on disabilities, said: “I am acutely aware of the challenges that those with disabilities face when trying to find employment. Equally as a member of the Employment and Learning committee, I’m aware of the fantastic work being done by charities and voluntary sector organisations to build capacity among disabled people, and indeed employers, to ensure that access to employment is available to everyone. I understand that the Employment Minister is currently finalising a strategy that will look at employment for those with disabilities. I want to welcome the Minister’s move and hope that the published strategy will truly meet the needs of those who suffer from a disability.”
