The north’s social development minister has welcomed the advancement of plans that could see a Science Park built at Derry’s Fort George.
Nelson McCausland says the application for £12million of EU funding for the park - first reported in the ‘Journal’ last month - brings the creation of the Science Park a step closer.
“I welcome the positive steps regarding the Science Park proposals at Fort George. The Northern Ireland Science Park will help to lead the way in the development of high quality technology and knowledge-based businesses in Londonderry.
“It will also help to create much needed jobs for the City in line with the Regeneration Plan.
“My Department will continue to work closely with Ilex and the Northern Ireland Science Park in order to progress this project,” he says.
The next stage in the process is receipt of Ministerial approval by the Department of Finance and Personnel and the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Investment in the south.
“Last month Foyle Sinn Féin MLA Martina Anderson told the ‘Journal’ the Science Park “will stimulate the establishment and development of high quality technology and knowledge based businesses”.
