Secondary School Students from across the City and beyond are to take up valuable work experience placements with Seagate. Students will spend time in Engineering, ICT, Production and Human Resources.

The Seagate Work Experience Programme allows students to learn and work within a high tech facility, equipping them with vital experience for job roles in a range of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) based job roles. Brian Burns, Vice President of Seagate’s Springtown Operations said, “We’re delighted to provide opportunities for students that might have an impact on their future career choices. As a forward thinking company, it is important that we have a hand in preparing the future workforce and there’s no better way to do that than to let them sample a working week at our state-of-the-art facility.”

Students represent Lumen Christi College, St. Cecilia’s College and Holy Cross College in Strabane. A female student commented, “Seagate is very supportive of girls dispelling the myth that engineering is for boys”.

Seagate also facilitates visits for students every other week. Vivienne Kerr, School Employer Connections, said, “Seagate opens the eyes of students from Year 8 to Year 14. Their commitment to our schools allows students as young as twelve to spend time in a workplace like no other.”

School Employer Connections, supported by the Department of Education, provide work experience placements for 15 to 18 year old students across the North and West of NI and provide class visits to industry for all post-primary students to enhance curriculum learning and experience of the workplace.

Owen Crozier, School Employer Connections, said: “Seagate has provided placements for 15 students at one time. This clearly demonstrates their commitment to schools. Our students are very lucky to be able to avail of these opportunities from a world class employer.”
