Businesses at the North West Business Complex in Skeoge will soon be enjoying the best broadband speeds in Europe after signing up for a new government backed scheme supporting companies hoping to boost business by improving broadband services.
The Derry Connection Voucher Scheme offers small to medium sized businesses between £200 and £3000 towards the cost of installing ultrafast broadband as part of the SuperConnected Derry programme. Derry is one of only 22 cities throughout the UK to benefit from the scheme which is part of the wider Super Connected Cities Programme, run by Derry City Council and supported by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport’s Urban Broadband Fund.
The funds are available on a first come first served basis to any local business whose current service is inadequate for their needs, and opens up a wide range of new opportunities for companies keen to compete in an expanding global market, or simply improve efficiency.
Project facilitator with Enterprise North West, Carrie McCafferty, said the scheme appealed to a wide range of companies in all areas of business, making it perfect for group applications.
“North West Business Complex is delighted to have successfully secured funding as part of the SuperConnected Cities initiative,” she said. “This scheme will allow our business complex to upgrade our digital infrastructure to offer our business tenants the opportunity to realise their full economic potential.
“The provision of ultrafast broadband direct to the business/work units will allow our tenants to compete more efficiently in today’s fast-paced global market. High-speed broadband has the potential to offer huge benefits for the wide range of businesses supported in our Complex. From Software Developers to Online Retailers, from Engineers to Manufacturers - connectivity has been a key factor in these businesses locating at North West Business Complex.
“By securing the provision of ultrafast broadband we can help our tenants increase efficiency, improve customer service and work in partnership to compete for bigger contracts, thereby increasing their competitiveness in today’s market. The fact that Derry~Londonderry boasts one of the best digital infrastructures in the UK will allow our local economy to drive jobs and growth throughout our city.”
Business Opportunities Manager with Derry City Council, Louise Breslin, said: “This scheme offers an exciting opportunity for local businesses to upgrade their broadband service, improve business efficiency and explore new markets for their products - all at minimal cost.
“The message we want to get across is that no matter how small or bespoke your business, faster broadband can improve your day to day services, making it easier for both you and your customers. This scheme is open to every small to medium sized business in the Derry area, and we are delighted to announce that Strabane companies can also avail of the programme.
But remember that funding is limited, so it’s really worth signing up now while there is still availability.”
