Slight drop in Derry dole queue

Unemployment fell in Derry last month but new figures show there are still more than 6,000 people on the dole in the city.

New figures released this morning show a total of 6,121 people claimed unemployment related benefits in Derry during October - a fall of 68 since September.

The figures show 8.6% of the workforce claimed benefits in Derry last month - twice the rate of Antrim, Castlereagh and North Down.

Derry’s rate remains the highest in the North.
