Traffic wardens ahead for Crawford Square

Parking headaches for Crawford Square residents could soon be coming to an end, according to a local community leader.
The secretary of the Crawford Square and District Residents’ Association, Fionnbarra O Dochartaigh, said yellow lines will soon be painted in the area.
Speaking ahead of the association’s AGM, Mr O’Dochartaigh said: “After many years campaigning for traffic restrictions Road Services has agreed to remove a bottle-neck opposite Crawford Court.
“In the next few weeks traffic wardens will be engaged after yellow-lines have been marked out,” he said.
Mr O Dochartaigh said he also hoped additional measures will be introduced in the future to ease parking concerns for local residents.
“The yellow lines, as far as we are concerned, are only the start as we are making other demands upon Road Services. We’d like to see two hour parking signs until such time as we have secured a Residents Parking Permit Scheme. Last year, at a face-to-face meeting, we informed the relevant Minister, Mr. Danny Kennedy MLA, that we will intensify our campaign if, after a reasonable period, a one-way traffic system is not guaranteed by his departmental officials,” he said.
The association’s secretary also said the AGM will discuss a proposal to tackle fuel poverty in the area.
Mr O’Dochartaigh said he will be proposing a plan to introduce bulk purchasing of home heating oil “which would be of most benefit to poorer households which may usually order small quantities.”
