A Derry MLA has said said Ulster Bank’s decision to axe 1800 jobs is a “devastating blow”.
Sinn Fein’s Raymond McCartney said the bank must minimise branch closures and said an all-Ireland “ approach to the future of banking and regulation is a necessity.”
“This is a devastating blow to workers. Ulster Bank has 214 branches across the island, 79 in the north and 135 in the south. It is unclear how many of these branches will face closures.
“It’s very important to minimise job losses and branch closures and to ensure that those made redundant return to the workforce as soon as possible.
“An All-Ireland approach to the future of banking and regulation is a necessity,” Mr McCartney said.
