Local councillor Maeve McLaughlin has called on environment minister Alex Attwood to extend the Ulster Way to cover all nine counties.
Colr. McLaughlin said; “I understand that my colleague, Minister of Agriculture, Michelle O’Neil,l has written to Mr Attwood expressing her support for such an approach. I believe that the inclusion of all nine counties in the marketing strategy of Tourism Ireland and NITB would increase the attraction by offering a more extensive tourist’ Walking Trails’ product to visitors.
“Tourism is one of the few sectors that is experiencing growth in the present economic climate and we must do everything possible to enhance package offerings. By extending the ‘Walking Trails’ to the entire province it would greatly enhance the appeal and encourage visitors who might not otherwise have been considering coming North.”
