Call for '˜focus' on Grianan

An Inishowen councillor has once again called for tourism investment at Grianan of Aileach, pointing out how it attracts 'thousands of people' every year.

Councillor Jack Murray said while he welcomed investment at Malin Head, he would “love to also see the focus being put on Grianan of Aileach.”

Councillor Murray said he has asked Donegal County Council to meet with the Office of Public Works with a view to seeking more investment for the Burt fort but this had yet to happen. He asked if this meeting could take place in the near future, adding that Grianan of Aileach was “up there with Malin Head as a tourist attraction.”

Councillor Murray said buses full of tourists found it difficult to navigate the roads leading to the attraction and had to be aided on many occasions by local people.
