Buncrana’s preferential parking scheme could be rolled out in public spaces across Inishowen.
The spaces, a Young Social Innovators project at Buncrana’s Scoil Mhuire were recently implemented in a number of private car parks in the town for people with non-physical disabilities.
Councillor John Ryan said the council should move forward in making more available. He said that while the department response on the issue stated a bye-law cannot be implemented as there was no legislation for non-disabled parking in a public area, Donegal County Council should still move ahead with it. He suggested a number of spaces be made available.
Councillor Nicholas Crossan said the Municipal district had the power to implement it. He suggested that a space be made available at the health clinic in Buncrana and a survey then be taken across Inishowen to see where there was a need for the spaces.
