Sinn Féin Councillor, Kevin Campbell has welcomed a commitment from Culture Minister Carál Ní Chuilín on the Irish Language and Ulster Scots Broadcast Fund.
Speaking after the Culture Minister pledged to her continuing support for the fund, the Derry City Councillor said the fund will not only help the Irish language to grow but it will also provide employment.
“The Irish Language Broadcast Fund provides crucial support to a range of talented groups and individuals.
“The fund supports the production of excellent television, radio and online broadcasts which promotes the growth and development of Irish throughout the island.
“This financial support allows television companies to take on apprentices and trainees and helps create employment for those involved in the language sector,” he said.
Colr. Campbell, a fluent Irish speaker himself, went on to say the fund will allow for the Irish language to be presented on a global scale to people all over the world.
“It also showcases our rich cultural heritage to a global audience.
“I welcome the Minister’s personal intervention to secure financial support for the fund for another year until March 2016.
“Minister Ní Chuilín reiterated her commitment to the future of the Irish Language and Ulster Scots Broadcast Fund and will continue to engage with all the relevant bodies to ensure longer term funding.”
