A car was discovered on fire in the grounds of Termonbacca yesterday morning.
The alarm was raised at around 7.30am when a passer by saw smoke coming from the Termonbacca grounds. Both the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service and the PSNI attended the scene.
“This is absolutely deplorable,” said Sinn Fein Derry City Council candidate, Kevin Campbell.
“Termonbacca is a place of religious retreat and sanctuary. The people who live and work there deserve to do so in peace.”
It is believed the Vauxhall Insignia was stolen from the Muff area and those responsible entered the grounds of Termonbacca via the Braehead Road before dumping the car and setting it alight.
The car was completely destroyed in the incident.
