The SDLP Council group in Derry has removed the whip from Councillor Seán Carr.
The party says the move follows Colr. Carr’s “failure” to comply fully with its code of conduct in respect of his membership and participation in the SDLP Council Group in Derry.
A spokesperson added: “This action was taken only after Councillor Carr failed to attend a meeting to discuss this matter with the SDLP Council Group Leader.”
Councillor Carr, who was recently elected to the new Derry and Strabane ‘super’ council on the SDLP ticket, was said to be “shocked” by the move.
An undertaker by profession, Colr. Carr was first elected to Derry City Council in 2001 and re-elected to the local authority in 2005 and 2011.
The father of three, who lives in the Bogside, was elected in The Moor ward in May’s ‘super’ council poll.
