SDLP Derry City Councillor Jimmy Carr has welcomed news from the new contractor appointed to takeover street lighting works in the wake of the collapse of KPL that repairs in the Carnhill area of the city are due to be completed within a week.
Mr Carr said:
“I have been contacted by a number of residents in the Carnhill area who were concerned about the progress on street lighting in the area following the collapse of KPL. Working with my Assembly colleague, Pat Ramsey, we were informed by DRD that the contract has now been awarded to Whitemountain Quarries ltd.
“I have been in touch with Whitemountain, who have brought former KPL employees on board to deliver the new contracts, and they have informed me that they hope to have the lighting works completed within the next week.
“This is great news for the Carnhill community. It’s well known that street lighting provides a feeling of security for local residents and reduces instances of anti-social behaviour. The residents of Carnhill deserve to feel secure in their homes and I hope the speedy resolution of this issue will help with that.”
