Double glazed windows will be installed in almost 200 houses in the Shantallow area of the city, it has been announced.
SDLP councillor Jimmy Carr welcomed the scheme, which involved houses in Bradley Park and Collon Terrace.
“This is a welcome move by the Department of Social Development and will benefit the householders enormously.
“As increasing numbers of people look fuel poverty in the face, any measure which will help lower energy bills and keep people warm and safe and I am gratified to see DSD taking a step in the right direction in the Collon Terrace area.
“I look forward to hearing of similar schemes rolled out across those parts of Derry in need of them,” colr. Carr said.
