Police in Derry are appealing for information after cars were attacked by arsonists over the weekend.

At around 12.40am police received a report of two cars having been set on fire in the Northland Crescent area of the City.

It is believed some form of accelerant had been poured over the BMW and Vauxhall Zafira cars and set alight.

Damage was caused to the engine and front of both vehicles as a result. Five males, one wearing a grey and black hooded top were seen making off from the scene.

Meanwhile, at around 12.50am police received a report of a van having been set on fire in the Baldrick Crescent area of the City.

It is believed some form of accelerant had been poured over the Nissan Van and set alight. Damage was caused to the engine and front of the vehicles as a result. Three males, one wearing a grey coloured hooded top were seen making off from the scene.

Local Sinn Fein councillor for the area Mickey Cooper said: “I would encourage anyone with information about these attacks to contact the police immediately - such attacks have no place in our community.”
