A number of cars were damaged in the early hours of this morning in Maureen Avenue.
Police are appealing for information following a report of criminal damage being caused to several vehicles at a car park in the area.
At approximately 9.25am this morning, it was reported that a car had been broken into and a small amount of change had been taken sometime overnight. Three other cars had also been tampered with but it is not believed that anything was taken from them.
Local Sinn Féin Councillor for the area Patricia Logue condemned those behind the incident.
“I urge anyone in the area on Wednesday night, early hours of Thursday morning who might have any information about these incidents to contact the PSNI.
“It is absolutely ridiculous that this is happening. In the current economic climate it is very hard to afford to keep a car on the road at the best of times and no one needs this extra expense and upset.”
Anyone who has any information about this is asked to contact Strand Road Police Station on the new non-emergency number 101. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
