A Derry woman has spoken of the terrifying moment when the car she was travelling in was attacked by stone throwing youths in the city on Sunday.
Claire Barr was travelling with her father, who has cancer, and her two year old son Jayden, when a rock was thrown at their moving vehicle on the Madam’s Bank Road.
The Ballyarnet woman said the experience was “very frightening” for everyone in the car.
“My first thought was that the window had come in on top of Jayden, and I looked round but it was the other window they had hit. It all just happened so quickly. I’d say the average age of those involved was 15. I can’t believe anyone would do that. They were all just standing there for no reason attacking cars randomly. When we did a U-turn and came back up the road, they ran away. I’m just glad no one got hurt but I think we’re lucky because it could have been a lot worse.
“There was no reason behind them doing this, they just seemed to be taking the opportunity to have a laugh. It was very scary for us all.”
