CCTV cameras will be installed in Derry City Cemetery to try and stop vandals from attacking graves.

The most incident happened last weekend when criminals damaged several graves in the new section of the cemetery.

The announcement was welcomed by Sinn Fein Councillor, Kevin Campbell.

“It’s sad that it had to come to this but there has been a catalogue of vandalism attacks in the cemetery over the past year. We even had the situation when a car was set on fire within yards of graves.”

Colr. Campbell added: “I would once again appeal for people involved in these senseless actions in the cemetery to stop and if anyone knows the culprits to contact the PSNI.”
