Imagine a world where clowns, stilt walkers, storytellers and circus folk bring myriad delights to a park near you...
This weekend you’ll see just that when Derry’s St Columb’s Park becomes a giant playground for the return of In Your Space’s spectacular Carnivale of Colours - and this time for an unprecedented three days.
With the official line-up announced, families from all over the North West can look forward to vibrant shows, international acts, fun activities and scrumptious delights including free arts and crafts, face painting, storytelling, and gourmet food stalls, all set in the picturesque surroundings of St. Columb’s Park.
Last year’s Carnivale of Colours saw a staggering 30,000 people come along. This is the fifth Carnivale of Colours, sponsored by NITB, Arts Council Northern Ireland, Derry City Council, Culture Company and Children in Need, and it will open its Big Top door at 1pm on Saturday, June 2.
Witness the city’s finest musical acts at the ‘Pyramid Stage,’ coordinated Derry’s own Tina McLaughlin and The Jammhouse and featuring artists such as SOAK, John Deery and the Heads, and Dan Official. Local performers and members of the North West Circus School will have an opportunity to wow the crowds alongside international street acts Rob Torress, Wacky Chad, Fatt Matt and Granny Turismo!
If it’s thrills you seek, or even your fortune, all will be revealed at the much-anticipated Gypsy Ball - the most celebrated evening event at the Carnivale of Colours
Next Saturday night, June 2, will see Ireland’s favourite export, Cashier No.9, headline the fifth Gypsy Ball in the Circus Big Top within St Columb’s Park.
The annual ball has become a trademark event for local company In Your Space, encouraging ticket holders to indulge their inner glamour puss, get on the glitz, dust off the feathers and explore the old world charm of music halls, of bygone days, and when the circus came to town!
Cashier No.9’s distinctive crystal clear sound won them a place on the Meteor Awards shortlist, and has attracted an enviable following at home and abroad with their hits such as Goldstar, Lost at Sea, and Oh Pity, produced by celebrated DJ David Holmes. Their touring schedule this year alone has seen the boys headline South by Southwest, the holy grail for bands about to break the American market. The band have also been busy supporting some of the most respected pop acts in recent years, including Pulp, and have just finished touring with Oasis star Noel Gallaghers’ High Flying Birds.
The night will also feature the all-American Balkan fusionists, UnderScore Orkestra, Little Hooks, SOAK and Cover Girl all providing a rich mix of home-grown highlights.
St Columb’s Park is the canvas, the talent is the tapestry, and we want you, the people of this city, to get ready to show your true colours with The Carnival of Colours at The Gypsy Ball. Tickets £10 in advance available at We Got Tickets.com
