Clonmany crash driver to stand trial

An Inishowen man accused of dangerous driving causing the deaths of eight men will go on trial in July.

A fitness to plead application submitted yesterday by the defence on behalf of Shaun Kelly, Hill Road, Ballymagan, Buncrana was withdrawn today at Donegal Circuit Court.

Judge John O’Hagan set the hearing date for July 15th at Letterkenny Circuit Court.

Kelly’s charge relates to a road traffic collision between Buncrana and Clonmany on July 11th, 2010.

The men who died were Hugh Friel (66), Urris, Clonmany, Paul Doherty (19) of Ardagh, Ballyliffin, Eamon McDaid (22) of Ballymagan, Buncrana; Mark McLaughlin, (21) of Ballinahone, Fahan; PJ McLaughlin (21), of Rockstown, Burnfoot; James McEleney (23), of Meenaduff, Clonmany, Damien McLaughlin (21), of Umricam, Buncrana and Ciaran Sweeney (19) of Ballyliffin.
