“We raised a number of important issues across the city and district. Top of our agenda was the ongoing issues with the Clooney Road Dual Carriageway.

“This is a very busy road with hundreds of vehicles using it daily so on that basis clearly something needs to be done there as a matter of urgency.”

Colr. Fleming said the Divisional Manager had given assurances he was going to have an on-site meeting and look at the various aspects raised about the safety of this road.

“We reinforced our concerns in the interests of the health and safety of road users and pedestrians, and hope that a solution can be found that will prevent future accidents,” Colr. Fleming said.

A Department for Infrastructure spokesperson recently told the Journal that the Department was considering providing additional road safety features along this particular stretch of the dual carriageway.”

She also said earlier this month that the local Transport NI office has been has been made aware of accidents on the dual carriageway, and that a surface investigation has been arranged, while the Department will also try to establish whether there are any specific problems there.
