Maith sibh!

Chuir Meitheal Mhaighe (Comharchumann Mhaighe) bróisiúr amach ar na mallaibh a chuireann síos ar imeachtaí agus ar eagraíochtaí sa cheantar. Tháinig athruithe móra ar Mhagh le déanaí. Tá a lán daoine as baile amach ina gcónaí sa sráidbhaile agus tá sé i bhfad níos mó ná mar a bhí sé. Ní mór pobal nua a chruthú agus tá áiseanna nua de dhíth. Fuair an Comharchumann léas ar Halla Mhuire roinnt blianta ó shin. Cóiríodh an halla. Tógadh áisionad agus fortheach. Rinneadh seomra breá nua as an spás faoin stáitse. Bronnadh páirc go fláithiúil ar an Chomharchumann agus thosaigh obair ar pháirc shúgartha. Más mian leat a bheith i do thiarna talún, thig leat ‘méadar de Mhagh’ a cheannach le cuidiú leis an tionscnamh seo! Bíonn imeachtaí ar siúl sa halla gach lá den tseachtain beagnach – clubanna do gach aoisghrúpa, grúpa súgartha, biongó, ranganna damhsa, ranganna ríomhaireachta, agus ranganna Gaeilge. Tá sé ar intinn ag an ghrúpa teanga, Glór Mhaighe, ceardlanna a eagrú do dhaltaí scoile agus do thuismitheoirí sa bhliain úr. Bíonn Féile Mhaighe ar siúl gach samhradh agus bíonn an coiste iontach gnóthach i rith na bliana, ag iarraidh an ócáid a fhorbairt. Cosúil le heagraíocht ar bith eile, tá daoine de dhíth ar Mheitheal Mhaighe le cuidiú leis an obair leanúnach. Tá sé an-doiligh daoine a mhealladh amach na laethanta seo mar go bhfuil gach áis sa teach- guthán, teilifís, ríomhaire srl. Ní gá duit dul amach ag siopadóireacht, fiú: tiocfaidh an veain chugat leis an ordú. Is féidir tuilleadh eolais a fháil ar imeachtai sa sráidbhaile ar an suíomh idirlín a sheolfar sa halla anocht: www.muffcommunityforum.ie.

The Muff Working Party (Muff Community Development Co-op) published a brochure recently giving an account of events and organisations in the area. Muff has changed greatly of late. Many people from other areas are now living in the village, which is now much bigger than it was. A new community has to be built up and new facilities are required. The Co-op got the lease of St. Mary’s Hall a few years ago. Repairs were done to the hall. A resource centre and an extension were built. A fine new room was created beneath the stage. A field was donated generously to the Co-op and work started on a play park. If you want to be a landlord, you can buy a ‘metre of Muff’ to help with this project! There are events in the hall almost every day of the week- clubs for every age group, a play group, bingo, dance classes, computer classes, and Irish classes. Gl ó r Mhaighe, the Irish language group, intends to run a number of workshops for school pupils and parents in the New Year. Muff Festival takes place every summer and the committee is very busy throughout the year, trying to develop the event. Like every other organisation, the Co-op needs people to help with the ongoing work. It is very difficult to coax people out nowadays, since there is every facility at home – phone, television, computer etc. You don’t even need to go out to shop – the van will come to you with the order. In the old days people used to stop in the street to chat; now they sound the horn driving past. So it is more difficult to preserve a community. Muff is giving a fine example to the rest of the country. You can get more information about events in the village on the Internet site which will be launched in the hall tonight: www.muffcommunityforum. Comhghairdeas

Comhghairdeas le Conradh na Gaeilge, Glaschú, a d’eagraigh dianchúrsaí Gaeilge den scoth sa chathair an deireadh seachtaine seo caite, le teagascóirí as Dún na nGall agus Doire.

Congratulations

Congratulations to the Glasgow Gaelic League who organised a number of excellent intensive Irish courses in the city last weekend with tutors from Donegal and Derry.
