A comedy writers workshop programme, hosted by The Playhouse in Derry, starts in Strabane this weekend.

The week long programme will give writers an opportunity to practice being funny through script writing for radio, stage or stand up.

Writer, actor and comedian for stage, screen and radio, and co-founder of comedy group, ‘Love The Concept‘, Peter E Davidson will deliver the OCN accredited course, which features a guest masterclass appearance from Micky Bartlett. “Northern Ireland’s answer to Kevin Bridges”, Bartlett is loved for his TV appearances on 2 series of BBC NI’s ‘Monumental’.

Participants will learn to develop comedy character, explore sitcom analysis, radio comedy writing, and writing funny for children.

“The course is a fun way to dip your toe into all things funny” Tutor Peter Davidson said, “from the initial idea that makes you chuckle like a mad thing to making the leap to professional writer.

“If you have some funny jokes or a funny story to tell this course will be ideal for you.”

Edel Murphy from the Playhouse said “An accreditation from the Open College Network and a masterclass from Micky Bartlett is making this a popular opportunity for budding writers, comedians and actors in Strabane. Enrol now to secure your place!”

Running in Strabane Enterprise Hub, Railway Street, the course will start on Saturday March 14 from 10am to 6pm, run weekdays from 4pm to 6.30pm and completes on Saturday March 21 from 10am-6pm. This free programme is open to anyone aged 16 or older but places are limited.
