Thomas Chambers is Derry’s first ever ‘Young Mayor’.

Thomas was appointed to the role by majority member vote after four candidates presented their ideas and plans to a meeting of the Foyle Youth Council.

A joint initiative between Derry City Council and WELB Youth Services, the Foyle Youth Council aims to give young people greater opportunities to have a say in the city in which they live.

Derry Mayor Brenda Stevenson has invited Thomas to shadow her and attend a number of civic events over the next ten months.

She says: “Thomas will be in a great position to assist me in reaching out to ensure policies and decisions are the right ones for young people.”
