An SDLP candidate has raised concerns after a syringe was found in a street in the Creggan area of the city.

Emmet Doyle said the hypodermic syringe was found in the Greenwalk area of Creggan, close to where children were playing.

“I am appalled that anyone would abandon a dangerous object such as a syringe in the street without any care for the community and for young children that play on the grass, at Greenwalk in particular. “I was alerted to the object by a resident in Dunmore Gardens who was concerned for young children in the area, and I have reported the incident to the local PSNI neighbourhood team and to the Housing Executive,” he said.

Mr Doyle also said people in the area have contacted him with concerns about drug use.

“Lower Creggan is a quiet neighbourhood for the most part, and it should not be used as a dumping ground either for items such as needles, or those using them for any illegal purposes,” he said.
