Sinn Fein Foyleside Councillor and legacy spokesperson Mickey Cooper has welcomed confirmation that the ‘Fest in the West’ community festival will receive support from the Derry City Council Arts Council legacy fund.
Colr. Cooper said the support would allow the festival to greatly increase its profile and offer more to the community.
“I am delighted that this funding has been made available to the Outerwest Neighbourhood Partnership and C.R.A.F.T. to expand the Fest in the West event. The festival is a family friendly initiative which works in partnership with communities and schools across the Outerwest area and has proven its popularity in the past despite working with a very small budget,” said Colr. Cooper.
“This increased support, which was made possible due to our [Sinn Fein’s] insistence that the legacy funding criteria was amended to target areas of need, will allow a greatly expanded festival which will undoubtedly benefit all residents of the Outerwest area. I congratulate St Mary’s College and the event organisers for their perseverance in establishing the ‘Fest in the West’ in the festivals calendar,” he added.
