At the monthly council meeting on Thursday, a motion tabled by SDLP Councillor Martin Reilly, expressing the council’s disappointment that CultureTECH did not take place in 2016, was unanimously passed.

Mr Reilly said: “There clearly is a keen interest in CultureTECH right across a number of sectors and people have rightly pointed how other cities showcase their digital skills and talent through events like Dublin’s Festival of Curiosity, Cork’s Science Festival which was held last week and the NI Festival held in Belfast back in February.”

Sinn Féin Councillor Elisha McCallion said her party was happy to support the motion.

She said that one of the best things about the CultureTECH festival had been that it had been industry led. Councillor McCallion said it was important that any new reinstated festival would also be supported by the private sector.
