Limavady Borough Council is urging local residents to step on the pedal and get cycling for charity as part of their Round the Bridges cycle on Thursday, June 21.

The 11-mile cycle, which has an entry fee of £5 per person or £10 per family, starts and finishes at Limavady Recreation Club, Killane Road, Limavady.

All monies raised will go to Macmillen Cancer Support and the Royal Victoria Hospital for Sick Children.

Limavady Mayor Sean McGlinchey urged the public to get behind the cycle and raise as much money as possible for these great charities.

“The Round the Bridges Charity Cycle is an extremely worthwhile event and I would urge everyone in the community to support it and take part. Whether you’re an experienced cyclist, or just want a great family evening out this event is perfect for all. With all money raised going to two such fantastic charities, I really hope we can give them the donation they deserve and make this event a huge success,” he said.

The cycle is partly funded by Travel Wise as part of Bike Week 2012 which runs from June 16 – 24.

Registration can be done before the event by completing an entry form and returning it, along with the fee, to Limavady Borough Council, 7 Connell Street, Limavady, BT49 0HA, by Friday, 15 June. Entry forms (with sponsorship form included) can be obtained from all Council buildings and online at www.limavady.gov.uk .

Or you can register on the day between 5.30pm and 6.30pm at the Recreation Club, Killane Road, before the cycle takes off. The cycle commences promptly at 6.30pm.

There will be a pit stop at Swann’s Bridge where refreshments will be provided.

Council advises that all appropriate cycling gear, particularly helmets, be worn.

Marshals and the PSNI will be on hand throughout the event to ensure the safety of all taking part.

The evening will be rounded off with a family fun evening at the Recreation Club. Food will be on sale. There will also be a DJ and family fun entertainment, so it promises to be something the whole family can enjoy!
