A convicted killer has appeared in court accused of assaulting a 15-year-old girl.
Daryl Quigley, whose address was given on court papers as Benevenagh Drive, Limavady, is charged with common assault, disorderly behaviour and assaulting police on March 7 and 8.
Quigley was convicted of the manslaughter of local musician Jim Gilchrist in 2008 and jailed for ten years. The 27-year-old was released from prison in 2011.
Yesterday, Derry Magistrate’s Court heard allegations Quigley grabbed a 15-year-old girl by the throat and held her quite firmly for a number of seconds.
Police opposed bail for fear of further offences.
Defence solicitor Don Mahoney said his client has an ‘unenviable record’ but he does comply with bail conditions.
He added that Quigley has ‘no recollection’ of the alleged incidents because he had consumed alcohol.
District Judge Barney McElholm released Quigley on his own bail of £750 with a number of strict conditions.
The 27-year-old will appear in court again on April 2.
