Man accused of serious assault

A 36-year-old man has appeared in court charged with a serious assault in Creggan at the weekend.

Martin John Neeson, of Magowan Park, is charged with grievous bodily harm on August 28.

He is further charged with possessing an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence, namely a knife.

During a brief hearing, the 36-year-old spoke only to confirm his details and that he understood the charges.

An investigating officer told Derry Magistrates Court she believed she could connect Neeson to the alleged incident.

Defence solicitor Keith Kyle said his client would not be making a bail application at this time because there is no suitable address.

Neeson was remanded in custody to appear in court again via videolink on September 5.
