Glenn O’Hara, of Copperthorpe, pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon on February 20.

Defence Counsel Eoghan Devlin told the court the 21-year-old has the ‘degree of stupidity required’ to possess the knuckleduster, stating it is the offence of a half wit’.

He said one can only imagine the ‘tragi-comic scene’ of ‘the defendant, like a pound shop version of some sort of gangsta, with a knuckleduster to show to some other twit.’

Mr. Devlin added ‘these are the antics of a clown. I would ask the court to extend a degree of sympathy to this man for his lack of maturity.’

District Judge Barney McElholm formally deferred sentencing for six months until December 16.

He warned the defendant if there are any further offences he will go to prison.
