A Bridgend woman’s “maternal instincts” kicked in when she drove a car while uninsured, a court has heard.
Janice McGurk, (44) 13, Carraig Bridge, appeared at Buncrana District Court on five different motoring charges at Mannerstown Crossroads, Bridgend on November 15th, 2013. The court heard the vehicle in question had been “lying at the house,” and was undergoing NCT preparation. McGurk is a nominated driver on her sister’s policy, which is her “normal mode of transport.”Defence solicitor Mr Ciaran MacLochlainn said McGurk received a phonecall from her son’s school, who informed her he had been involved in a “serious incident.” He said her “maternal instinct kicked in” and she drove the non-insured car. McGurk, who has no previous convictions, was fined 200 euro for no insurance, 100 euro for failing to display an NCT certificate and three remaining summonses were struck out.
