A pensioner who was caught driving whilst more than three times over the legal limit has been disqualified for 18 months.

Brian Devine, of Dungullion Road, Eglinton, was also fined £150 after admitting driving with excess alcohol in breath on September 3, last year.

Derry Magistrates Court heard the 67-year-old had just left the car park of the Longfield Inn when he was stopped by police. A breath test gave a reading of 117mg of alcohol in 100ml breath.

Defence solicitor Gerard Guckian said his client had been driving for more than 50 years and this was ‘entirely out of character’.
