A pensioner has pleaded guilty to raping and indecently assaulting a girl over 20-years-ago.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to ten sex abuse charges between August 1981 and December 1990.
They include five charges of rape and five charges of indecent assault.
The 66-year-old had initially denied a total of 34 charges.
However, the morning after a jury was sworn to try the case at Derry Crown Court the defendant applied to be rearraigned.
The guilty pleas to ten of the charges were acceptable to the crown to ‘reflect the offending behaviour’.
Prosecuting counsel then applied for the remaining counts to be left on the books, not to be proceeded with.
Sentencing was adjourned for a probation pre-sentence report to be compiled.
The pensioner was released on continuing bail and told by Judge Stephen Fowler he was subject to the notification requirements of the sex offenders register.
He will appear in court again on May 13.
