A woman who stole over £1200 from her employer has ‘ruined her reputation’.
Laura McConnell, of Knockena, pleaded guilty to fraud by abuse of position and theft by an employee.
The offences were committed between January and June, last year when the 30-year-old was employed by Semi-Chem.
Derry Magistrates Court heard the 30-year-old stole a total of £1212.93 by carrying out refunds and taking the cash.
Defence counsel Steven Mooney told the court his client was a woman of previous ‘good character’ and did not have a criminal record.
He said the 30-year-old has now lost her employment and will find it difficult to gain employment again in the future.
The barrister told the court the money was not spent on an extravagant lifestyle but was used to ‘supplement her income’.
Suspending a five month jail term for two years, District Judge Des Perry said McConnell had ‘ruined her reputation’.
