Derrylane Flax Mill is hosting its open craft day this weekend, on September 10, where attendees can expect lots of top quality arts on display, according to organisers.
“As always, only the very best of manufacturers, no dealers, no importers of cheap and nasty stuff and no child-labour is involved in any of the products,” said Hermann Baur of the Flax Mill.
“We are very proud to welcome to demonstrations of blacksmiths working at two forges. You’ve never seen the like. We will also have ring making; dyeing with natural dye-stuffs and demonstrations of hand embroidery. There will be two master-spinners in the mill and weaving.” Master-crafters on the day will include Marius Eitelwein (Germany) and Collin Dawson (Templepatrick); Brendan Cosgrove from County Antrim will show how to make beautiful rings from recycled materials.”
Other crafters include:
-Christine Boyle will show dyeing with natural raw materials and have a stall with her beautiful textile-crafts.
-Marie-Louise Gormley is showing how she produces her unique felted bags.
-Emma Whitehead will hand-embroider at a 7 ft. tall tent! Of course some of her products will be there for sale. Behind the looms and spinning wheels you can watch Irelands cream of textile-workers:
Marion Baur, Sarah Morrison, Lynda Kelly.
The Open Day 2011 starts at 10 am and runs through to 6 pm on Sat Sept. 10th.
