Creggan Sinn Féin Councillor Kevin Campbell has welcomed the decision by the Housing Executive to carry out an external maintenance programme for the Rinmore Drive area.

Once up and running the maintenance scheme will be extended to Dunree Gardens, Central Drive, Beechwood, Dawros Gardens. Dunaff Gardens and Demesne.

Speaking to the ‘Journal’, Councillor Campbell said: “Rinmore Drive is an area in Creggan where the residents have had to lobby long and hard to have renovations done to their homes.

“It is almost 10 years now since major renovations were carried out in the street by the Housing Executive. This news now that they are to carry out an external maintenance scheme on the homes starting in March is to be welcomed.

“It will entail painting the outside of the homes, as well as fixing gutters, fencing etc.”

Colr. Campbell added however that there was a major need for a window replacement scheme for the area. He said: “The windows at present are wooden framed and are the major cause of draughts and leaks for the residents. There is a clear need to have these replaced with PVC windows. I have written to senior management in the Housing Executive complaining about these windows and have requested that they be replaced as part of this external maintenance scheme.”
