A 27-year-old man who was found with a bag of cannabis during the Clipper Festival has been fined £100.
Diarmuid Nicell, of Lenamore Park, pleaded guilty to possession of the class B drug on June 26.
Derry Magistrates Court heard that police were on patrol in the Queen’s Quay area when they noticed a strong smell of cannabis coming from Nicell.
He was searched and officers found a small bag of cannabis, with a street value of £20.
Defence solicitor Maeliosa Barr told the court his client would smoke cannabis occasionally and the drugs found were for his own use.
In addition to the fine District Judge Barney McElholm ordered the destruction of the drugs.
