A 39-year-old man has appeared in court accused of attempting to cash a cheque stolen from a local solicitor’s office.

Thomas John Martin McGill, of Carlisle Road, was further charged with the robbery of a takeaway on the Spencer Road using a hammer.

In total the 39-year-old faced a total of ten charges relating to three different incidents between February 9 and March 26.

They include attempted forgery, possession of cannabis and possession of a hammer.

Two investigating officers told Derry Magistrate’s Court they believed they could connect McGill to the charges.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said his client would not be making an application for bail at this time.

McGill was remanded in custody and will appear in court via videolink on April 19.
