A 35-year-old man has appeared in court accused of pretending to be a solicitor.

Kieran Joseph Healey, who address was given on court papers as Damien House, Foyle Road, is charged with being an unqualified person pretending to be a solicitor between August 2011 and August 2014.

He is further charged with making a false representation and possessing articles for use in fraud.

It is alleged the 35-year-old had court documents and emails to use in connection with fraud.

An investigating officer told Derry Magistrates Court he believed he could connect Healey to the charges.

District Judge Barney McElholm said ‘on occasion I have had cause to pretend not to be a solicitor. Why anyone would want to pretend to be one I don’t know’.

Healey was released on continuing bail to appear in court again on November 20.
