A 29-year-old man has pleaded guilty to assaulting a former SDLP councillor.

Robert Fisher, of Ivy Mead Mews, admitted assaulting Jimmy Carr on May 6, this year, during the recent election campaign.

The assault relates to an incident in the Carnhill area of Derry, when Mr Carr then a sitting councillor was cavassing in the area with his mother.

Fisher denied a further charge of threatening to kill Mr Carr.

The case was adjourned and the 29-year-old will appear in court again on August 11.
