Four cars have been set alight and a home petrol bombed in separate weekend incidents in the Galliagh area of Derry.

Local Sinn Fein councillor Tony Hassan urged anyone with information about the incidents to contact police.

He was speaking after four cars were set on fire in the Bloomfield Park area early on Sunday and, in a separate incident, three men had to be treated for smoke inhalation after a petrol bomb attack on a house at Fern Park on Saturday morning.

Councillor Hassan said : “There is no justification for the attacks that took place in the Galliagh area over the weekend and sooner or later we will be looking at a tragedy, due to these mindless actions.

“I would like to commend the quick actions of the Fire Service.

“No one has the right to destroy other people’s property and the loss of these cars will inflict untold hardship on working class families.

“I would appeal to anyone with even the slightest piece of information with regards to those behind these criminal acts to bring it forward to the police straight away.”
