Strabane Sinn Féin Councillor Jay Mc Cauley has issued an appeal for young people to avoid entering school grounds.
The appeal comes in the aftermath of the orgy of destruction caused to Milltown Grammar School in the town last week, the recent fire at Holy Cross, and following subsequent concerns from staff and parents of Barrack Street Boys School that the grounds of the school have been used as a site for underage drinking in recent weeks.
He said: “The terrible destruction caused to Milltown Grammar last week, as well as the fire at Holy Cross the previous week, have brought into sharp focus just how vulnerable our local schools are to vandalism.
“Subsequent to these attacks, I have also been contacted by staff and parents of pupils of Barrack Street Boys School, concerned that the school could also be at risk of vandalism given that the grounds of the school have been used as a site for underage drinking in recent weeks.
“They are concerned that if this continues it is only a matter of time before vandalism, in one shape or another, takes place.”
“I would appeal for young people to completely avoid entering school grounds, out of term time, if not authorised to do so.”
