Appeal over city centre assault

Police have launched an appeal for information after a man was reportedly attacked in the city centre earlier this month.

The man was treated in hospital after being subjected to an assault in the in the early hours of Saturday, September 10.

Police at Strand Road are now appealing for any witnesses to the attack, which occurred in the High Street area off Waterloo Street, to come forward.

A PSNI spokeswoman said: “At approximately 2.10am on September 10 a 25-year-old man was assaulted by an unknown male.

“He was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.

“The assailant is described as being approximately 6’ tall, of thin build and wearing a white t-shirt and jeans.

“Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this assault to contact Police at Strand Road Police Station on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 1320 20/09/16. Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
