A man who drove a car two weeks after he was disqualified from driving has received a suspended jail term.
Peter Gallagher, of Sandale Park, pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified, having no insurance and taking a motor vehicle without authority on May 1.
Derry Magistrates Court heard police stopped the 22-year-old on Creggan Road. He admitted that he didn’t have permission to drive the car and was only supposed to be washing it.
Suspending a nine month jail term for two years, District Judge Peter King said the offences caused him ‘huge concern’ and the public ‘have to be protected from disqualified drivers’.
He also disqualified him from driving for three years.
