Police confirmed this morning that a suspicious object was found in the area and was currently being investigated.

A number of homes have been evacuated from the area.

Those behind the device in Culmore have “nothing to offer the community,” Sinn Fein’s Elisha McCallion warned earlier.

She said: “There’s no support for these types of action in our community and those responsible have to stop immediately.

Residents have been evacuated from their homes.

“Those behind this security alert have nothing to offer the local community.

“We don’t need or want these type of incidents happening in our city.”
