A 51 year-old woman was yesterday given a conditional discharge for brothel keeping in Derry.
Marcela Prackeova, of 77 Drumachose Park, Limavady, admitted a charge that she kept, managed or acted in the management of or assisted in the management of a brothel in the city on October 1.
District Judge Barney McElholm agreed with defence barrister Eoghan Devlin that there was no need to read the facts of the case in open court as a probation officer’s pre-sentence report contained all the relevant details. Mr McElholm stated that the facts had been revealed in open court on a previous occasion.
Mr Devlin told the court that the “unfortunate background” of the case detailed in the report spoke for itself. Mr McElhom said it was a “fine line” between an offence taking place and not. “It seems to me that the facts of the case just about cross over into a successful prosecution,” he added.
Prackeova was given a conditional discharge for two years.
