Buncrana man “doesn’t remember” damaging van

A Buncrana man, who caused over 1000 euro in damage when he ‘careered’ into a van with his shoulder couldn’t “remember” the incident, Buncrana District Court has heard.

Dale Kerr, 14, Willow Park, Buncrana pleaded guilty to criminal damage at Main Street, Buncrana on June 13th, 2010 at Buncrana District Court on Thursday.

The court heard damage was caused to a van overnight between June 12th and 13th.

The vehicle belonged to Mr Eunan McLaughlin, a newsagent who owns a premises on Main Street. Gardai obtained CCTV footage of the incident and identified Kerr from it.

The court heard the 21-year-old ‘ran into’ the van with his shoulder, causing over 1000 euro of damage, which has been repaid in full. Kerr was shown the CCTC footage by Gardai and confirmed the man in it was him.

Defence solicitor Mr Frank Dorrian said his client had been drunk and doesn’t remember the incident. He said Kerr, who is unemployed, lost control but had “faced up” to his actions and “paid a heavy price.”
