A post on a social networking site has led to the recovery of a Derry business owner’s stolen car.

The proprietor of Honey Hair and Beauty salon at Carlisle Road recovered her stolen vehicle after a Facebook friend spotted the abandoned car at Lisfannon Park in the Bogside. The car had been taken by burglars who had broken into her salon on Sunday morning.

Honey owner Margaret Johnston described the hair-raising experience of discovering that her business - which opened only four weeks ago - had been targeted by thieves. She had parked her car outside the shop overnight on Saturday but saw it was untouched when she went to a nearby cafe for breakfast with boyfriend Donal Doherty on Sunday morning. “I went to have breakfast with my boyfriend at around 8.50am and it was still there but when we came back less than an hour later it was gone. It was then I remembered that the keys had been left in the salon.”

Margaret soon discovered that the thieves had broken a door to gain access to the premises and stolen a laptop computer and GHD hair straighteners.

“Donal posted on Facebook about what happened. Someone posted back soon afterwards that the car was parked near her home in the Bogside. Thankfully the car only had a small bump on the front and was not badly damaged. Finding the car was a great relief.”
